Title:
The Internet in the Post Revolution Phase: addressing challenges of political engagement, and safety of citizens

Concise Description:
This workshop tackles how best to maximize the benefits of the Internet and Social media in the post revolutionary phase, as a means to help citizens articulate ideas and opinions, as well as practice its political rights whether in joining parties, lobbying, petitioning for a special cause or else… .
The workshop will attempt to probe into the best practices to engage the masses from different countries as well brainstorm with speakers about out of the box practical suggestions that could be adopted in those countries going through major political transformations. The workshop will also attempt to highlight the different aspects and levels of political engagement and the most appropriate ICT tools that could play a role in this respect. In addition, the question of restoring trust in the relation between the new government and the masses and how ICT would serve this cause can be raised.
The session aims at reaching concrete recommendations in terms of programs/ policies needed to further enhance political participation through ICTs.
The workshop will try to answer a number of questions:
1. How the new culture of the “new culture of communications” affected political evolution in the Egyptian society?
2. How best to address the dynamics of communications especially between different age groups and regions?
3. How to get more people online?
4. What are the pros and cons of using social networks in political engagement and how best to build aware citizenry ? this question will address issues of privacy and information credibility, media literacy
5. Experiences from developed countries.
6. How to balance protection and e- participation by presenting efforts towards child safety in Egypt with a special focus on technology solutions.
