Hon. Eng. Philip O. Okundi is the Chairman of the CCK Board of Directors.  He was appointed to the CCK Board in October 2008.

Hon. Eng.  Okundi is the immediate former Member of Parliament for Rangwe Constituency (2003-2007) and a seasoned ICT expert.  During his term in the August House, he was a member of the Parliamentary Committee on Energy, Communications and Public Works as well as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC).

Prior to joining politics, Hon. Eng. Okundi served in various positions of note in the public sector in Kenya.

He started his career in the defunct East African Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (EAP&TC) in 1966 as a pupil engineer, and rose through the ranks to the position of Chief Engineer and Deputy Director-General in charge of Telecommunications in 1974.

Following the collapse of the East African Community and the subsequent formation of national telecommunications and postal utilities in the three member states, he was in 1977 appointed Deputy Managing Director of the Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation (KP&TC).

Hon. Eng. Okundi later on served as the Managing Director and CEO of Kenya Ports Authority (1984-1993), the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (1993-1997) and the Kenya Bureau of Standards (1997-2001).  In 1995, he was appointed Chairman of Afrispace, a subsidiary of Worldspace International Corporation, which introduced digital radio satellite broadcasting using computer addressable radio receivers.

He holds a Master’s (Msc) in Telecommunications Systems Engineering from the University of Essex and a BSc in Electrical and Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Westminster.  

Hon. Eng. Okundi is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and the UK, a registered Engineer and a Chartered Electrical Engineer (UK).

In recognition of outstanding public service, Hon. Eng. Okundi has been decorated with two state honours: Order of Burning Spear (EBS) and Head of State Commendation (HSC).
