[NEW] Requests for Open Forums
Organizations dealing with Internet governance related issues are invited to submit a request for an Open Forum slot at the IGF 2015 in order to present and discuss their activities. The meetings should focus on the organization’s activities during the past year and allow sufficient time for questions and discussions. Each Open Forum is required to produce a background paper and a report of the meeting. Governments wishing to hold an open forum to present their Internet governance related activities will also be given a slot.
To submit a request to hold an Open Forum meeting during the IGF 2015, please register here. The deadline to request an Open Forum time slot during the IGF 2015 is midnight UTC 30 April.
[NEW] Call for Workshop Proposals
Workshop proposal submission forms for the 2015 IGF meeting are now available. The deadline for submission is 30 March 2015 and no late submissions will be considered. The guidelines for workshop proposals and the MAG workshop review and evaluation process are also available, along with a list of considerations for workshop proposers.
[NEW] Call for participation in the 2015 IGF Inter-Sessional Activities
All stakeholders are welcome to join and participate in the inter-sessional activities of the IGF, to learn more please join the inter-sessional working group mailing list.
Stakeholders are also invited to participate in the 2015 Best Practice Forums (BPFs) by joining the following mailing lists:
- Regulation and mitigation of unwanted communications
- Establishing and supporting Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs)
- Developing meaningful multistakeholder participation mechanisms
- Practices to countering abuse against women online
Furthermore, the MAG has recommended that a formal invitation be extended to all national and regional initiatives both to contribute to the horizontal global inter-sessional theme for this year: "Policy Menus for Connecting the Next Billion", and to develop messages and/ or conclusions that will support the global IGF inter-sessional work.
For this reason, national and regional IGF initiatives are kindly invited to:
- Introduce the theme and sub-themes of the upcoming IGF to the discussions held during 2015 whenever possible;
- Provide suggestions relating to ideas on the basic pillars that will help operationalize and advance inter-sessional work during 2015;
- Contribute to the discussions regarding the development of “Policy Menus for Connecting the Next Billion”;
- Distribute this message widely within their respective IGFs; and
- Make any suggestions and/or inputs on how to maximise, facilitate and strengthen their engagement with BPF and inter-sessional work.
[NEW] Overarching Theme and Sub-Themes
After consulting the wider Internet community and discussing the overarching theme of the 2015 IGF meeting, the Multistakeholder Advisory Group decided to retain the title “Evolution of Internet Governance: Empowering Sustainable Development”. This theme will be supported by eight sub-themes that will frame the discussions at the João Pessoa meeting:
- Cybersecurity and Trust;
- Internet Economy;
- Inclusiveness and Diversity;
- Enhancing Multistakeholder Cooperation;
- Internet and Human Rights;
- Critical Internet Resources;
- Emerging Issues.

[NEW] Second Open Consultations and MAG Meeting
The second Open Consultations and Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) Meeting in the IGF 2015 preparatory process will take place on 20-22 May 2015, in Geneva, Switzerland.

Open Call for Input on Inter-Sessional Work
Following the initial MAG meetings for the 2015 IGF an Open Call for Input on Inter-sessional Work was issued, a number of contributions were received from the community which finally led to the publication of the following draft work-plan for the IGF inter-sessional activities.

Open Consultations and MAG Meeting
The first Open Consultations and Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) Meeting in the IGF 2015 preparatory process took place on 1-3 December 2014, in Geneva, Switzerland. These consultations also took stock of the IGF 2014 meeting, looking at what worked well and what did not.

Taking stock of IGF 2014 and looking forward to IGF 2015
Stakeholders were invited to submit written contributions taking stock of the IGF 2014 meeting and looking forward to the IGF 2015 meeting, including suggestions on the format, schedule and themes. Eighteen contributions were received and they are available for public viewing.
A synthesis paper summarizing the received contributions is available. The paper in intended to form an input for the Open Consultations and MAG Meeting of 1-3 December 2014.
IGF 2014 Best Practice Forums Outcome Documents
The final outcome documents of the five Best Practice Forums held at the 2014 IGF meeting are now available, together with a general overview of the process. They reflect the rough consensus views of the lead experts and contributing stakeholders and make suggestions for future work.
The Ninth Annual IGF Meeting was held in Istanbul, Turkey on 2-5 September 2014. The overarching theme for the meeting was: "Connecting Continents for Enhanced Multistakeholder Internet Governance" with the following subthemes.
