Concise Description:
The workshop aims at delineating technical and economic aspects pertaining to the IPv4/IPv6 transition. Not only have developing countries been cautious about moving forward towards the transition, but also they are uncertain about the necessary steps needed to make such transition smooth and successful. This workshop brings experts in the field to address questions such as how can network and service providers in developing countries plan for the transition? What are the risks and the benefits? What is the role of governments, if any, in this transition?
The workshop offers participants the opportunity to learn about IPv6 from a practical point of view, and to realize its technical and business challenges. At the same time, the workshop allows speakers and discussants to share their knowledge and expertise with participants who will be attending the IGF meeting.
The workshop targets policy makers, business and technical advisors, particularly those of governments and businesses from the developing world.
Dr. Sherif Guinena of the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Egypt will be moderating the session.

Speakers represent various stakeholders including business, government, and the technical community, and they come from Africa, Middle East, Europe, and Latin America.

The workshop is organized with the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority of Egypt and the Regional Internet Registry of Africa (AfriNIC). The organizers are also keen to include perspectives from other developing regions such as Latin America, so will coordinate with LACNIC for that purpose.
