The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), is a regulations in force since May 2018, apply to all companies that process the personal data of interested parties residing in the European Union, regardless of the location of the company. The extraterritoriality of the regulation is one of the key issues that will impact the entire world, exporting a European model of privacy.

Interventions: 

The session will have the participation of diferents actors, who will raise perspective from challenges, gaps, booster and how this will be addressing by counties in the global south.

Diversity: 

The session consider the participation of Europeans Civil Society and Data Protections Authorities (UK and Spain respectively) , in front of Global south DPA and civil organization (Argentina, Brasil and Chile)

The GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), is the new normative that regulates the protection of the data of the citizens that live in the European Union and those that are processing outside the territory of the EU. It affect all EU countries, compared to 28 different laws former on the use of data. The impacts in Latin America remain to be seen throughout this year, and experts point out that it will be the de facto standard.
The purpose of the panel is to answer the question: ¿Are we moving towards the European concept of privacy? ¿Will the country’s export the regulations to encourage the flow of data from the EU to Latam and countries in the global south? Or will companies will segregate the protection of rights just UE citizens?

Discussion Facilitation: 

Datos Protegidos will do an introduction to the subject and some situations that citizens of the global South have faced updating privacy policies, information from companies, legislative processes in progress and others will be exposed. It takes 5 minutes
Then four speakers will have 10 minutes to reflect on the question that guides the session, about the facto export of the European privacy model, according to the sector that they represents. Total 40 minutes.
The last 15 minutes will lead to a debate and questions from the audience, moderated by who made the introduction to the topic.

Online Participation: 

There will be a special person from the organization, who will be attentive to the requirements of the remote participants, at least 1 questions will be chosen for the speakers, from the remote participants and these will be made and answered during the question round.
