Oriane Piquer-Louis and Nina Cercy are two super-active women in this area. We don't have figures from other countries for now but we are open to suggestions.
There is a huge contrast between the Internet technical infrastructure, which is mostly decentralized, and Internet services, which are in the hands of a few actors. Many small actors from the civil society are tackling this issue by encourage redecentralization and self-hosting. This is better for privacy, security, and it probably leads to a healthier governance of internet services. What are these initiatives? What is their agenda? How to boost their outreach? The movement is naturally bottom-up: can we convince big actors to go top-down and let users really control what they do?
The onsite moderator will first introduce the general topic, then say a few words on each participant. She will then explain that the session is also live online and that participants to the onsite session can raise questions at any time, if this is okay with the speakers. She will then start the discussion among speakers and keep a balanced timing amont them and interactions with the onsite and online audience.
Internet Governance is about who controls what and how. In this session, we tackle the issue of redecentralizing Internet services and tools. This way, we consider other, more bottom-up, governance models.
We will share a framapad.org link, an IRC channel and a Twitter/Mastodon hashtag. The online moderator will monitor these channel and report questions and reactions live. The framapad notes will then be used as a draft for a collaborative report of the session.
