Diversity

We are reflecting diversity by having a balanced moderator and speakers list in terms of gender (3 men,2 women) geographical (Americas, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia), age (4/6 under the age of 35), and stakeholder group: start-ups, consultants, NGOs, think tanks.
Speakers are first-time IGF speakers.

The session will cover central issues in the Internet's governance: open-source protocols and standards, ip rights, net neutrality, data protection, individual sovereignty and political decision making.
The session will take the form of a round table where various examples and paths towards a decentralized governance of the internet will be explored:
-Open- Source Decentralized Protocol development
-Smart Contracts and the Law
-Identity and Sovereignty
-Decentralized Autonomous Organizations

The roundtable format will be optimised by having both on-site and off-line discussion and including novel blockchain based tools for inclusion of online and diverse voices. Half of the time will be dedicated to participant engagement.

The Internet is broken: IT and data monopolies have formed and incentives are misaligned between the different stakeholders:users, platforms, protocol developers, governments, NGO, intergovernmental organizations.
Distributed Ledger Technology offers novel tools and precious experiences in consensus formation that are taking on increasing relevance and prominence for online governance.

Online Participation

Online participation will be on an equal footing with on-site participation by having:
-equal time for questions and dialogue
-online as well as offline moderator
-novel voting mechanism via a blockchain to propose and select an area of particular focus
