Relevance: 

The Internet is broken: IT and data monopolies have formed and incentives are misaligned between the different stakeholders:users, platforms, protocol developers, governments, NGO, intergovernmental organizations.
Distributed Ledger Technology offers novel tools and precious experiences in consensus formation that are taking on increasing relevance and prominence for online governance.

Session Content: 

The session will cover central issues in the Internet's governance: open-source protocols and standards, ip rights, net neutrality, data protection, individual sovereignty and political decision making.
The session will take the form of a round table where various examples and paths towards a decentralized governance of the internet will be explored:
-Open- Source Decentralized Protocol development
-Smart Contracts and the Law
-Identity and Sovereignty
-Decentralized Autonomous Organizations

Adina Popescu (Romania): Founder Future Earth: A blockchain governance protocol to enhance sustainable crowd action by coordinating large scale action, rewarding impact investment and tying that investment to objective measures such as deforestation rate or plastic pollution per area in order to incentivise action.
Arnaud de Saint Paul (France): Founder of Give Foundation: A blockchain based platform for charity: for kids at school, the daily real life experience of giving to charities and kids in need while learning how to handle their finances through the management of their pocket money budget and multiple earnings possibilities.
Cem Dagdelen (Turkey): Managing Partner Horatii Partners: pprovides consulting to governements, NGOs, corporates, academic institutions and start-ups in the field of blockchain and crypto-economics.
Sarah-Diane Eck (France): Founder Sandblock.io/CryptoAsso: CryptoAsso is a non-profit organization dedicated to donations via crypto-currency and the development of the sustainable economy. Sandblock a blockchain protocol tying corporate reward programs to verifiable customer action such as survey taking that will enable the cross conversion of rewards and miles between corporate programs and towards charity programs.

Diversity: 

We are reflecting diversity by having a balanced moderator and speakers list in terms of gender (3 men,2 women) geographical (Americas, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Asia), age (4/6 under the age of 35), and stakeholder group: start-ups, consultants, NGOs, think tanks.
Speakers are first-time IGF speakers.

Online Participation: 

Online participation will be on an equal footing with on-site participation by having:
-equal time for questions and dialogue
-online as well as offline moderator
-novel voting mechanism via a blockchain to propose and select an area of particular focus

Discussion Facilitation: 

The roundtable format will be optimised by having both on-site and off-line discussion and including novel blockchain based tools for inclusion of online and diverse voices. Half of the time will be dedicated to participant engagement.
