Mr Ananda Raj Khanal, Senior Director at Nepal Telecommunications Authority

Ananda Raj Khanal, born in Nepal in 1970, is currently senior Director at Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) , an independent and autonomous  telecom regulator of Nepal. Before joining NTA in April 2006, he was with the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Kathmandu University in Nepal.

He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Electronics and Communications, Master of Engineering degree in Optical Communication. He is a gold medalist in Bachelors of Law ( LLB).

Mr Khanal has taken a number of training courses related to policy, legal, regulation and management of Telecommunications/ICTs sector conducted by different international institutes of repute including ITU , ACMA, PURC, APT, TEMIC, USTTI and other regulatory agencies.

He is an elected Vice Chairman of ITU-D Study Group 2 for the period 2014-2017 and re-elected through the World Telecommunications Development Conference ( WTDC-17) for 2018-2021.

He has chaired a number of national committees that deals with telecommunications and ICTs including cyber security, accessible Internet for persons with disabilities etc.

He is a founding member of Internet Society, Nepal Chapter and has been very active in its activities. He is a government stakeholder member of Nepal Internet Governance Forum and is very active in issues related to Internet Governance. He has significantly contributed in the promotion of internet issues related to gender equality, disability and bridging the digital divide issue.
