IGF 2021 Town Hall #35 Internet and Jurisdiction Policy Network Session

Helping to foster the IGF’s open and bottom-up character as a space for dialogue and debate, the Internet & Jurisdiction Polic
Network Town Hall will provide an opportunity for IGF participants to exchange openly on how to foster innovative approaches t
concrete cross-border internet governance challenges regarding legal interoperability in cyberspace.
The Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network engages over 400 key entities from governments, companies, technical operators,
international organizations, civil society and academia from over 7O countries around the world to foster legal
interoperability in cyberspace through multistakeholder collaboration since 2012.
As digital cooperation begins to be recognised as increasingly important for well-being, development and society, it is
important to define the key challenges stakeholders face when tackling internet governance policy.
This session will encourage an inclusive and frank debate on the hurdles faced by professionals working in internet
policymaking. Topics may include: information overload, polarising policy speak, lack of common framing of problems.
Presenting briefly the progress and recent outcomes of the I&JPN as an introduction to the exchange, the session will offer
examples of how actors can collaboratively frame and identify emerging internet policy trends and develop useful resources for
policy innovation.
Participants will engage in a discussion on the ways in which stakeholders can cooperatively strengthen their capacities to
stay updated on technological developments and policy trends as well as meaningfully engage in policy debate and cooperation.
Building on the IGF’s desire to take an issue based approach to policy topics, the session will provide an opportunity for
stakeholders to identify sessions and concrete topics relevant for jurisdiction trends to help foster an issue based approach
to the forum this year.

Closing and presentation of key events at IGF

The Session will be organized as a hybrid format with full involvement of remote participants. It is expected that
not all speakers will be able to physically online. We will work with the chat and other online engagement tools to
make sure that remote participants can fully interact and contribute to this session. Each block of the session
will see brief presentations by the I&JPN Secretariat of the achievements of hundreds of engaged stakeholders from
70+ countries in the Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network, followed by comments from one member of the I&JPN and
