Media Engagement

The Internet Governance Forum is open to journalists and media representatives from around the world, both in person and online. Media participation helps bring IGF discussions to wider audiences and supports public understanding of digital governance issues.

At the IGF, journalists are not only observers. As digital transformation reshapes access to information, freedom of expression, online safety, platform governance, artificial intelligence and the sustainability of independent media, the media are also important stakeholders in the digital policy process.

About the Initiative

The IGF support for journalists from the Global South is an initiative designed to strengthen inclusive, informed and locally grounded reporting on digital governance.

The initiative supports journalists from across the Global South to report directly from the IGF annual meeting, bringing regional perspectives, local realities and public-interest journalism into global digital policy conversations.

As digital governance debates increasingly shape economies, rights, security and development outcomes worldwide, journalism plays a critical role in making these discussions more accessible, accountable and relevant.

“Attending and covering the Internet Governance Forum held in Lillestrøm was a transformative experience for me as one of the journalists from the Global South supported by the UN IGF Secretariat.” Jean de Dieu Ndikumasabo, IGF 2025 Journalist
