    SDGs

    16. Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions

Targets: Public access to information is included as a target under SGD 16. The development of C2PA technology is one of the latest technological developments which may support healthier information ecosystems in which it is easier to identify accurate, verifiable information (potentially including the publisher, production process and any use of AI). It is a critical time for the development of this technology and it is crucial to include the global majority into conversations on how to effectively use, adapt and scale this technology for the benefits of the wider information ecosystem going forward.

    Format

The BBC speaker will provide the audience with an overview of the latest developments in C2PA technology, before each representative from Global Majority media partners reflects on the challenges and opportunities of adopting this technology into their own work. A short moderated group discussion will take place to surface options to progress this agenda, and the audience (in the room and online) will be asked to contribute their own thoughts (via e.g. Slido).

    Duration (minutes)
    30
    Description

This event will focus on how the development of content provenance technology (C2PA) can be more inclusive of Global Majority media stakeholders, drawing on the work the BBC and BBC Media Action are currently doing to support this with media partners from both Ukraine and Tanzania, and considering how these efforts can be scaled.

The session will be live-streamed and online participants will be able to submit their queries via online platform (e.g. Slido).
