3. What collaborative approaches can be fostered between governments, technical experts, educators, and child safety advocates to promote the development and sharing of child-friendly cybersecurity tools, while addressing the unique needs and capabilities of children in the digital realm?
What will participants gain from attending this session? By attending this session, participants and attendees will gain valuable knowledge, such as:
1. Awareness of Children's Unique Needs: Participants will develop a deeper understanding of the challenges children face in using traditional cybersecurity tools and the importance of considering their specific needs and capabilities.
2. Strategies for Child-Centered Design: Participants will learn about user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design principles tailored to children, enabling them to create intuitive and engaging interfaces for child-friendly cybersecurity tools.
3. Collaborative Approaches: Participants will explore the benefits of interdisciplinary collaborations in developing effective child-friendly cybersecurity tools, and knowledge sharing.
4. Ethical Considerations: Participants will gain insights into ethical implications, enabling them to navigate privacy, consent, and exploitation concerns responsibly.
5. Networking and Community Building: The session will provide opportunities for participants to connect with like-minded professionals, educators, and child safety advocates, fostering collaboration and the exchange of ideas beyond the workshop.
Description:
To ensure the safety of children online, parents and schools often emphasize the importance of teaching cyber safety skills. However, many cybersecurity tools and concepts can be overwhelming and challenging, even for adults. This workshop session aims to foster a dialogue within the technical community about the feasibility and significance of developing cybersecurity tools that are specifically tailored for children or offer child-friendly options. By exploring the potential of such tools, we can empower children to wield cybersecurity as a weapon against online risks, while also addressing their unique needs and capabilities.
This session brings participants from the technical community, educators, parents, and child safety advocates together to discuss the key areas such as age-appropriate considerations in designing tools for children, child-centred design principles such as UX and UI principles on cognitive abilities, attention spans and technology proficiency, interdisciplinary collaborations between technical experts, child psychologists, educators, and child safety advocates and also ethical considerations and implications that may arise.
By the end of the workshop session, participants will gain insights into the importance of child-friendly cybersecurity tools, explore innovative approaches to design and development, and develop a collective understanding of the ethical considerations involved.
1. Policy Recommendations: Based on the discussions and insights gained during the session, policy recommendations will be formulated to guide policymakers and governments in creating supportive environments for the development and adoption of child-friendly cybersecurity tools.
2. Follow-Up Collaborative Project: The outcomes of the session can serve as a foundation for a future initiative, such as a pilot project done in collaboration between stakeholders present.
Hybrid Format: 1. Seamless Integration: Online participants will be provided with a pinned link to access the same content such as presentations, discussions, and activities in real-time, as onsite attendees.
2. Virtual Co-Moderator: A dedicated moderator will be stationed online to interact with and facilitate the session, actively monitoring and moderating questions, comments, and discussions from both groups, ensuring equal participation and engagement.
3. Interactive Tools and Platforms: Complementary online tools/platforms, such as interactive polling, chat features, and Q&A sessions, will be utilized to foster engagement and interaction among all participants.
4. Inclusive Presentation Materials: Presentation materials, including slides and handouts which will be shared in digital formats, will include clear visuals, captions, and accessible formats will be used to accommodate diverse needs.
5. Post-session Interaction: A post-session online link will be provided to collect questions that were not answered and to reshare the recorded session if need be.
