What will participants gain from attending this session? This session aims to provide participants with a wide overview of what changes could be currently observed in the fields of work and education due to prevalence of Large Language Models and what are the predictions for the future. Emphasis will also be placed on capacity building among the participants, especially young people, in order to participate in the policy-making process to provide solutions for the challenges, strengthen the capabilities of the future technological developments, and in this way influence the future of technology adoption. Moreover, the format of the session will allow participants to interact with speakers and with one another which might be helpful in building new connections with like-minded people and starting new cooperations.

Description:

The rise of artificial intelligence has revolutionized the way we work and learn. With the advent of ChatGPT and other AI technologies, companies, organizations and educational institutions are rethinking how they approach training, communication, and customer service. However, the integration of ChatGPT and AI in work and education presents both opportunities and challenges. One significant concern is the potential for job displacement, as AI-powered tools may replace human workers in certain tasks. This could lead to job losses and a need to reskill and adapt to new roles which might be especially difficult for youth who just enter the job market. In education, there are also concerns about the potential for AI-powered tools to perpetuate inequities or reinforce bias, as algorithms may reflect existing societal biases.

This panel aims to provide a youth-led multistakeholder approach into the impacts of Powerful Language Models such as ChatGPT into the workforce and education, having the perspectives of youth as a central point We want to understand what are the policy challenges that come from this and the perspectives of the different stakeholders involved. The organizers and all panelists are members of the youth community and highly engaged in this topic.

The premise of this panel is to be highly interactive and provide the audience with the opportunity to engage in a discussion with the speakers. In particular, young people will be encouraged to speak up and share their perspective of what opportunities and challenges they see for themselves related to advanced AI development. For this reason, the session will consist of 2 parts: an introduction to the topic by invited speakers and a discussion in two break-out groups.

Expected Outcomes

This session will engage the youth community in order to provide a broader approach to the topic. The expected outcome is to increase the participation of young people in the discussion related to AI applications such as ChatGPT at a national, regional and international level.

Another outcome of this session is the publication of the main concerns of the youth community regarding the topic. Therefore, the session will be divided in two breakout groups, where the youth community will list the five main concerns of the youth community regarding the group topic. Our intention with this document is to provide a source for consultation and knowledge where participants will be able to use the session outputs to create a resource for them and others who are researching this topic.

Hybrid Format: 1) Online participants will be an important part of the audience. Therefore, online and onsite moderators will cooperate to ensure that both online and onsite participants will have an equal opportunity to join the discussion with speakers and to ask them questions.

2) The session will include interactive elements for both online and onsite participants. The use of an online board will facilitate the smooth exchange of comments between both types of participants.

3) We plan to use Mentimeter for conducting polls at the beginning of the session and Miro to create an online board.
