What will participants gain from attending this session? The session is expected to raise awareness about the importance of always highlighting in the dialogues and best practices of Infrastructure alternatives and technology. Participants will gain understanding of the data and the work done by youth-led initiatives, and access to a report that summarizes the discussions, case analyses, and recommendations presented during the session; which will serve as a reference for researchers, policy makers, and practitioners involved in the field of Infrastructure alternatives
It is expected to stimulate the engagement of youth leaders, policymakers and platforms. And we will invite participants to review our work and discuss our proposals, while the output of this session will be shared with governments, international and non-governmental organizations.

Description:

Why do some countries manage to experience environmental disasters such as tsunamis and earthquakes and recover quickly, while others remain for years facing the consequences? Infrastructure and strategic planning are certainly related in some way, but how exactly? The speakers of this session will bring data from their regions to show the disparity in technology infrastructure, and to urge politicians and the private sector to look for solutions.

To set the context, the discussion will begin with the exploration of Addis Ababa Messages from IGF 2022 pertinent to Global Digital Infrastructure. Our panelists, leading the change in their respective domains, will discuss the current state of regulation and innovation- technological infrastructure in their regions, and the instrumental role youth are playing towards progression.

A recent study by the Analysis Group, commissioned by Meta, estimated that the metaverse economy in Latin America could reach US$320 billion within a decade. However, Latin America and the Caribbean has been going through various political, economic and environmental situations. Would the private sector and governments be able to build the necessary infrastructure to ensure this plan and technological advancement? Thus, they will seek to report our speakers, also going into detail about the situation of technological infrastructure in Africa and Asia.

This session brings together the efforts of the Youth LACIGF, Climate Youth Japan, Natural Resources Law and Sustainable Development Research Group, State Government of Goiás - Brazil, and Tanzania Youth, to produce a final report with 2022 data from the Global South on technological infrastructure, which will serve as a guide for this session and which will be made available to participants on online platforms, with an opened period for suggestions and public consultation.
