1.How can AI technology be used to improve educational facilities for adolescents in rural and remote areas and the southern hemisphere, how can effective digital competency training be carried out to provide safe, inclusive and effective learning environment for adolescents and reduce the new digital divide caused by spread of AI technology?
2.What are the elements needed to use AI technology to create safe and trustworthy online environment for teenagers, and design AI applications that benefit them?
3.What adjustments should the government make to existing policies? What role should the private sector play in developing and implementing these important measures?
What will participants gain from attending this session? Through this conference, the audience will learn how regulators should respond to new challenges to the right to education and personal safety of young people in rural and underdeveloped areas in the digital age.
Description:
The fact that not all young people can adapt to life in the digital age is very different from what people think about as teenagers. Especially in rural and underdeveloped areas, adolescents lack the necessary resources to enable them with digital skills and awareness of digital ethics. This reality makes it easier for teenagers to become victims of cyber exploitation and perpetrators of deviant behavior against law.In 2023, AI services like ChatGPT have been publicly provided to online users, including teenagers, which strengthens the digital divide among teenagers in areas lacking network infrastructure, and brings new tools for teenagers to use AI to commit illegal and criminal acts. In our workshop, we will discuss how regulators should respond to the new challenges to the right to education and physical security of adolescents in rural and underdeveloped areas in the digital age
1.Identify opportunities and lessons learned that would provide digital education to children and young people living in both underserved urban and rural areas.
2.Identify the most critical gaps hindering the adoption and deployment of digital education resources in the rural areas.
3.Identify policy tools for governments to develop education programs for the school age people in rural areas to learn digital skills and ethics.
4.Identify key issues on funding, resources and capacity at the national level, for regulating AI technology to create a safe and trustworthy online environment for children.
Hybrid Format: 1) We will have 1 onsite moderator directing the session and giving the floor to the speakers both on-site and online. In the slots for opinions and questions from the public/audience, for each of the three perspectives, the onsite moderator will be attentive to the physical queue and will ask the online moderator in the case of hands raised or written comments, in which case the questions will be allowed in a round-robin basis . The online moderator has the main task of maintaining the order of the raised hands and written chat, reading the questions, and giving the floor to online audience speakers. 2) The online moderator will be posting messages in the Zoom chat for people to prepare questions in the chat or raise their hands. We will use Mentimeter Word Cloud for the final part of the session as already explained.
