What will participants gain from attending this session? The participants are expected to deepen their understanding on the present state of how the advancement of AI technology and its potential adverse impacts on youth employment on a global scale. Through engaging discussions, participants will gain familiarity with the existing framework that governs the development of AI technology, and acquire practical knowledge from the discussion outcomes that they can use as a reference for the ethical implementation of AI technology in their work.
By the end of the session, participants will emerge with a heightened awareness of the complex challenges that arise with the advancement of AI technology and the need for proactive measures to ensure a fair and just integration of these technologies into society.

As we begin the year 2023, the growth and sophistication of large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT illustrate the rapid advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AI). While this wave of progress is exciting, we must also acknowledge the potential disruption it may bring to traditional industries and the looming threat it poses to the job market. This is especially true for the youth – a generation that must constantly adopt new skill sets yet may lack real-life work experiences.
Ethical adjustment to technology advancements is essential for our society to thrive, and regulatory measures can help create a balance between the needs of businesses and the workforce. Since AI governance has now become a priority in the public agenda, we must urge all stakeholders of different regions to enable a conversation to explore how emerging AI technologies may affect the younger generation in the future of employment, and identify the key aspects of proactive steps that could address these challenges and eliminate the unintended impacts brought by the advancement of technologies.

Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts and insights on the immediate concerns on key issues identified throughout the discussion openly. The valuable contributions will be synthesized into a statement that consists of a set of actionable recommendations that inform the modernization process of policy frameworks for the ethical implementation of AI technology in both public and private sectors.
In addition, the organizers will leverage various digital platforms to share the outcomes of the discussion. This includes a blog post summarizing the key takeaways, and digital communications on social media platforms and mailing lists to highlight the discussion and raise awareness of the need for equitable integration of AI technology in society.
Discussion outcomes of this session will also serve as a critical source of information for a policy group initiated by the organizer to further explore the topic and expand it to a more comprehensive set of policy recommendations.
Hybrid Format: To create a collaborative environment that leads to a more productive and meaningful discussion with diverse perspectives, both on-site and online moderators will work together to facilitate the session to ensure everyone has an equal opportunity to voice their opinions. In addition, a chat room moderator will be present to ensure valuable comments are attended and integrated to the overall discussion.
A queue will also be maintained for the Q&A and roundtable sessions, with on-site and online attendees placed in an alternating order, to ensure a balanced and inclusive discussion. The organizing team has also avoided incorporating any setting that favours on-site participants over online participants, such as integration of any on-site breakout group where transcription services and proper streaming of the discussion are not enabled. This is to ensure all participants have access to the same level of engagement and participation in the session.
