NRIs Collaborative Session on cybersecurity: Bridging the gaps for a safer cyberspace
WS 1 – Annex Hall 1 |
While Internet governance establishes mechanisms to safeguard critical infrastructures and data, ensuring a secure cyberspace, the effective cybersecurity builds trust among users and supports privacy and data protection. It also fosters a secure environment for social and economic development and innovation. The exchange of national and regional multistakeholder practices is crucial within Internet governance to facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration, and learning from diverse perspectives, enabling comprehensive cybersecurity strategies.

Bridging the Gap Between International Negotiations and On-Ground Experiences in Cybercrime Response
-
In today's technology-driven era, where Internet access and technology adoption are pervasive, cybercrime has emerged as a highly profitable venture with enticing rewards and minimal risks. This complex issue draws in governments, non-governmental entities, and individuals alike. Global endeavors such as the UN Open-Ended Working Group (UN OEWG) and the UN Ad Hoc Committee on Cybercrime are in progress to promote cybersecurity and international norms. However, a stark disparity exists between the practical efforts taking place on the ground and the overarching push for global resilience and regulatory measures. Practical initiatives encompass the work of various entities, including law enforcement personnel, financial sector fraud teams, digital security experts safeguarding human rights advocates and journalists, National Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs), and projects aimed at bolstering the security of internet users, institutions, and public sector entities. These localized actions coexist with the pursuit of international regulations, revealing a need for alignment between both approaches. This session aims to create a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and innovation by bringing together diverse stakeholders from both multilateral processes and practical cybercrime response efforts. By uniting the insights gained from negotiations with the experiences of those actively engaged "on the ground," we aim to explore effective strategies that bridge this gap and enable holistic, evidence-based, and tailored solutions to address complex cybercrime challenges. ********************************************** Confirmed Panelists and Co-Moderators: Christopher Painter, Director of GFCE Global Forum on Cyber Expertise Ernesto Rodríguez Hernández, Vice Minister of Communications, Cuba Katitza Rodriguez, EFF Policy Director for Global Privacy Alissa Starzak Cloudflare’s Vice President, Global Head of Public Policy Elizaveta Belyakova Chairperson, Alliance for the Protection of Children in the Digital Environment Folake Olagunju Program Officer for Cybersecurity, Internet and eApplications - Economic Community of West African States Co-Moderators Olga Cavalli, Argentina National Director of Cybersecurity Tracy Hackshaw, Chef d'Entreprise, .POST, Universal Postal Union Rapporteurs Vadim Glushchenko Cristina Morales Angulo
